Abstract: (99 Views)
Background: One of the things that influences the quality of life (QOL) of older people is their attitude to ageing. Therefore, the first step in finding out what kind of services and facilities the elderly need is to identify the person's attitude towards each aspect of ageing and how it affects the many aspects of the elderly's QOL. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the relationship between the attitude towards the dimensions of old age and determining its predictive role on the QOL of the elderly.
Methods: The study employed a descriptive-analytical-correlational design and included a statistical sample of 156 elderly individuals referred to six comprehensive health centers in Sabzevar City, Iran, during a six-month period, who were selected through one-stage cluster random sampling. Data were collected using Attitudes toward Aging Questionnaire and Older People's Quality of Life Questionnaire, and then were entered into Stata software and analyzed using multiple linear regression statistical test.
Findings: The scores of attitudes toward aging and QOL were 78.07 ± 0.51 and 112.07 ± 1.14, respectively. The physical and mental-psychological dimensions of aging were significantly associated with QOL (P < 0.001). In contrast, the dimension of psychosocial problems of aging and QOL had a significant negative relationship (P < 0.001).
Conclusion: Based on the study's findings and the significance of the elderly's physical and mental health among other dimensions of QOL of the elderly, necessary planning should be done to improve the living conditions of the elderly so that their QOL would be improved.
