Background: Implementation of quality management system in hospitals could lead to improved performance of the services. This study evaluated the effect of a quality management system (ISO 9001-2000) on services effectiveness in Shohada hospital at Kermanshah, Iran. Methods: This was a before and after quasi-experimental study. The mean duration of hospitalization, hospital infection rates, mortality, and patient and staff satisfaction was measured. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Findings: The results indicated an increase in staff and patient satisfaction mean score and reduction in hospital infection rates, hospitalized patients mortality rate, and the mean duration of hospitalization after implementation of the system. Conclusion: It seems that ISO 2000-9001 system implementation could be useful in improving hospital efficiency. It was an appropriate cost-benefit economical project.
