Background: Parenting methods have a very important role in the way of communication with the child and his mental and social health. This study was conducted to investigate the factors related to the coping self-efficacy of parenting skills of mothers in Jiroft City, Iran.
Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 2023 with 252 mothers of children aged 3 to 8 years, utilizing a multi-stage cluster sampling method. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire, which included demographic information and constructs of the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software, employing descriptive statistical tests, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis at a significance level of 0.05.
Findings: The average score of motivational constructs of the HAPA was higher than the volitional construct. Moreover, there was a statistically significant difference between behavior intention (r = 0.62, P < 0.01), action planning (r = 0.67, P < 0.01), coping planning (r = 0.50, P < 0.01), and coping self-efficacy. In addition, based on the results of multiple regression analysis, the aforementioned variables predicted 54% of the changes of coping self-efficacy variable of the positive parenting program in mothers.
Conclusion: Considering the predictive role of coping self-efficacy of the positive parenting program with the help of volitional phase constructs of the HAPA, it is recommended that the theoretical framework of this approach be used in carrying out interventions to increase coping self-efficacy in improving parenting skills in mothers.
