Background: It is very important to know the factors affecting the psychological problems of couples to provide effective treatment to reduce divorce. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the group marital enrichment program based on the integrated model of the emotion-oriented approach and Guttman's model on communication patterns, attachment styles, and reducing the risk of divorce of couples in Qom province.
Methods: The present research was conducted in terms of a semi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design along with a control group. The statistical population of the research included all the couples who referred to counseling centers and psychological services in Qom province in 2022. 40 people were selected by available sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (20 people in each group). The experimental group underwent 8 90-minute sessions of the group marital enrichment program based on the integrated model of emotion-oriented approach and Guttman's model. Data collection tools are the Communication Patterns Questionnaire (Christense & Sullaway), the Adult Attachment Style Scale (Collins & Reed), and the Marital Instability Index test (Edwards et al.). Descriptive indices and covariance analysis, and SPSS-26 software were used to analyze the data.
Findings: The results showed that by controlling the effect of the pre-test, there was a significant difference at the 0.05 level between the average of the post-test communication patterns, attachment styles, and risk of divorce in the two experimental and control groups, which indicates the effectiveness of the training program to improve communication patterns. Attachment styles and reducing the risk of divorce in couples.
Conclusion: According to this study, therapists and health professionals can use the group marital enrichment program based on the integrated model of emotion-oriented approach and Guttman's model to improve communication patterns, attachment styles, and reduce the risk of couples' divorce.
