Background: Educational failure is one of the most important problems in educational institutes. This study was performed to investigate the factors affecting student academic failure (family factors, factors related to students, factors related to lecturers, socioeconomic factors, Learning environment, and educational content) in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences Methods: In This cross-sectional descriptive study, 280 students of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences were studied in 2009. They were chosen with multiple cluster sampling. The students__AWT_QUOTE__ demographic characteristics and study information were collected by a valid and reliable questionnaire. Data were analyzed with SPSS (15) statistical software. Findings: The most important factors affecting the view of students toward educational failure were: educational content (4.23 ± 0.63), factors related to lecturers (3.88 ± 0.55), Environmental Education (3.63 ± 0.62), family factors (3.53 ± 0.6), and socioeconomic factors (3.45 ± 0.69). There are significant differences between the attitudes of students in two genders and the lecturer (p = 0.03) and social and economic environment (p = 0.003). In addition, the results did not show a significant difference between attitudes of students with age, marital status and employment status (p > 0.05). Conclusion: More attention to the educational content, factors related to lecturers and environmental education can prevent students educational failure and loss of resources and contribute to the development of a more effective educational system.
