Abstract: (24 Views)
Background: It is essential to identify factors that affect parenting self-efficacy. This study, therefore, aimed to determine the relationship between parenting self-efficacy and parent-child relationship in adolescent boys referring to comprehensive health service centers in Mashhad City, Iran, in 2022.
Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted on 600 parents and children (300 parents and 300 boys aged 13-15 years old) referring to comprehensive health service centers in Mashhad City, using stratified cluster sampling. Demographic information questionnaire, Domka Parenting Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, Pianta Child-Parent Relationship Scale (CPRS), and Fine et al. Parent-Child Relationship Survey (PCRS) were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics via SPSS software.
Findings: The mean and standard deviation (SD) of parenting self-efficacy were 37.1 ± 5.8. The average parent-child relationship was 99.8 ± 11.5, the average father-child relationship was 15.8 ± 2.9, and the average mother-child relationship was 16.1 ± 3.2. There was a negative and significant relationship between parenting self-efficacy and parent-child relationship (P = 0.030), and a positive and significant relationship was observed between parenting self-efficacy and mother-child relationship (P = 0.002). However, no significant relationship was observed between parenting self-efficacy and father-child relationship (P = 0.457).
Conclusion: The level of parenting self-efficacy had a positive and significant relationship with the mother-child relationship. Therefore, in order to have a healthy mother-child relationship, we must increase the self-efficacy of mothers' parenting, and in this regard, educational interventions and preparation of educational programs can be used to improve the self-efficacy of mothers' parenting.
